Asha
Asha

Asha is an alluring woman who has survived years in Krydor Keep as a mistress to Lord Vladimir Duma. It is common knowledge, however, that the relationship between them is more an alliance of convenience than love. Although Asha is much older than Vladimir, she shows no signs of aging. She endures nights keeping her prince company, indulging his every desire, and allowing him his countless infidelities. Vladimir takes full advantage of her tolerance. The prince respects Asha for her dedication and wisdom. Although these are traits with little value to him, he recognizes in her his most faithful ally. The dark prince knows about Asha`s aspirations to be the first lady of Krydor, but he will never propose to her. Although her beauty and availability keep him coming back to her, he can’t overcome the lack of feeling towards his mistress.

Asha`s past is a mystery to everyone, including Vladimir. No one really knows where she came from or when she actually arrived at the castle. She occupies the southern tower, living a misanthropic life in the company of her only servant. Though she keeps her distance from everyone, a persistent dark gossip surrounds her life. Castle dwellers often talk behind her back, recounting the chilling stories of young servants gone missing in the southern tower. Some servants swear to hear ghostly screams coming from the southern tower, but no one really knows what to make of it.

Asha could care less what common folk think about her. She is consumed with her obsession to someday become the first lady of Krydor. At night, she waits from dusk to dawn dressed up to be summoned to the castle to be allowed into the company of her beloved prince. When at times, out of spite Vladimir neglects her, she falls into fits of the darkest despair and rage. The rage will last for hours. She destroys the gifts Vladimir gives her and runs around the tower crying, yelling, and swearing that she should punish her unfaithful lover. Regardless of the princes promiscuous attitude, Asha will always forgive him, and her obsession with him seems to be never-ending, consuming every aspect of her life bit by bit.

RAVEN
RAVEN

Raven was an orphan who grew up in the quiet, spiritual realm of Covenant Grove. She was raised and nurtured by the inhabitants of a magic forest -bizarre, mythical creatures, and under the watchful eye of a spirit called Mother Willow. Not only was Raven a breathtakingly beautiful teenage girl; she also possessed remarkable courage and intelligence.

Raven's had a rather sad childhood, her parents lost in her early years during the war between humans and elligors. Miraculously, she survived the genocide brought upon her people by the clan of Duma. Though she had many questions about her past she knew very little about it. How she came to Covenant Grove and what truly happened to her parents remained a mystery to her. The witches and spirits of the Grove kept Raven's past a secret from her as much as from the outside world; they believed Raven to be the last of her kind: a nephillim - a mystical child of a celestial entity and a human. To protect her from the prosecution of the witch hunter, they kept her secret - locked away from the prying eyes of humans, in the midst of the mythical forest. Despite the witches' efforts and warnings , Raven remained curious of the outside world and of the people living beyond the walls of the Covenant Grove. She tried to escape from the Grove on several occasions only to find herself wandering for hours in the grey mists surrounding the forest.

Raven met Vladimir Duma for the first time while she was living in Covenant Grove. They became fond of each other almost instantly and shared a short, sweet summertime romance. The affair was abruptly ended by Vladimir - who found a way to leave the Grove and joined the Dark Appraisal army and subsequently become its leader. Heartbroken, Raven was left behind with ambivalent feelings towards Vladimir and his cause.

When Vladimir finally regained his father's throne and broke the magical seal surrounding Covenant Grove he invited Raven to join him in Krydor Keep. She accepted the invitation but their reunion was cold. When Raven arrived to her new home at Krydor Keep it was not with a sense of anticipation but of a resigned acceptance - she had had different ideas of where her future might take her. However, due to her personal involvement with Vladimir and her role in the Dark Appraisal, she was left without many options; she found herself unable to refuse the Vladimir's offer.

Her days in Krydor Keep were very unhappy. Like every superior being, Raven instinctively desired a secret place where she could be free from others, where she could forget the rule of man. She moved in to Raven's Tower - a solitary haven where no man could enter. From there she could see all of Krydor, including Covenant Grove with the Mother Willow in its center.

Raven was by nature a disturber of the status quo and therefore something of a social outcast. Scrutinized by the coven while bound by their restrictive rules and codes, Raven gradually became disillusioned and emotionally distant from Vladimir and his court. The prophecy came as an unpleasant surprise to Raven; she no longer had feelings for Vladimir and the prospect of an upcoming marriage and being forever trapped by that marriage in Krydor Keep, became an unbearable burden for her.

During the time she spent in Krydor Keep, Raven developed more than a passing interest in the Bies kind. Her curiosity eventually lead her in to a potentially humiliating and crazy affair with a young Bies named Dano. She has already made big misstep simply by allowing him into her intimate company - it was just a matter of time before their taboo relationship would be discovered and punished…

Raven felt now, more than ever, that it was time to run - with anyone, and anywhere just as far away from Krydor as possible.

Northerner
Northerner

Northerner was born as a third son of the noble family living in the northern coastal region named Kraal- tha- Gaat (The gates of Kraal). Northerner's family, known as the Kraal clan, has ruled for the eleven centuries over the northern coasts and seas. Great mystery surrounded these lands and despite of imperial efforts to establish their political rule over this part of the world; Kraal-tha- Gaat remained the last free state in the empire. After the bloody siege of Neho; Kraal-tha-Gaat was forced by Duma family in to the political union with the empire. Despite two hundred fifty years of common history with the empire, the state of Kraal-tha Gaat kept its autonomy and its borders closed to anyone born outside of it. There were seven indigenous clans living in Kraal-tha-Gaat; each had possessed a unique craft developed and perfected by them over the centuries. Though the level of all crafts in the region exceeded anything that could be seen anywhere else; people of Kraal-tha-Gaat were most famous for the unique knowledge of navigation, technology and medical sciences. Outside of Kraal-tha Gaat there were some speculations that the superior knowledge of northerners came from the “outer world” and that Kraals must have made a pact with demons to acquire it. Behind closed door of the ancient city of Kraal the trade secrets were passed in each family from generation to generation.

The Kraal family fleet was considered to be the best in Kraal-tha-Gaat, owing fastest battle ships ever known to men. Unbeatable in their trade they were chosen by other clans and put in charge of the exploration and conquer, defence and piracy. Northerner at early age was chosen by his clan to be trained as a warrior and ever since he was prepared for the life on the sea's. Since he was fourteen Northerner and his friends undertook the task of building their first boat and after two years of working under clans craftsmen supervision the Northerner's boat was ready to sail. At age of sixteen Northerner felt that the whole world was at his feet he had everything he needed to embark on his first journey.

Northerner was inpatient by nature, and a strong-willed rebel he was, he decided to leave his home the very next day. Hoping to stop his son from leaving, his father called upon the clan elders. After hours of deliberation they decided that before Northerners boat will be allowed to leave the harbor; he must forge the unbreakable steel, capable to slice through stone.... and heal all wounds; an item so difficult to craft that it would take at least few years even for skillful craftsman to create. With the help of his beloved grandmother, Northerner managed to recover an ancient scroll from the dungeons under the Kraal Castle. While being there with help of the scroll, he evoked an ancient spirit of light and for the price of his soul and the promise of becoming the warrior of light, he received the knowledge he needed to complete the task.

Soon after this event, on the night of the summer solstice, Northerner and his friends were free to set the sail and began their first adventure. However the spirit of the light felt betrayed by Northerner’s departure, as soon as the boat left the shores of Kraal-tha- Gaat, the angry spirit has send the great northern winds after them…. The violent storm had begun.

After many days of being lost in the sea; Northerners boat finally has reached the shore of the mythical Ice-lands; the far most kingdom to the north, ruled by a beautiful but evil queen Tamara. Exhausted sailors were stranded on icy coast and rescued by the local seal hunters who showed them the way to the Crystal Palace and presented them before the Tamara's throne. Usually weary of strangers, this time queen was struck by the hypnotic aura of the Northerner's green eyes. Intrigued by his appeal, she noticed that Northerner was a handsome man and that she felt very attracted to him. Despite the advice of her court shaman, queen decided to do whatever it takes to encourage Northerner to stay in Ice- Lands with her. She offered him and his crew the hospitality of her court and ordered to assign the east wing of the Crystal Fortress to the young warrior and his men. They lived there a luxurious life of never ending parties; where Tamara's infatuation with Northerner grew even stronger and eventually Tamara and Northerner became lovers.

Though queen tried to please Northerner's every desire, they relationship soured in time when Northerner became weary of their relationship his thoughts have returned to his country and life of warrior that he had left behind. After short discussion Northerner was happy to find out that his friends became home sick too. Together they decided to leave the Ice-Lands and sail back home to Kraal-tha- Gaat. Queen was shattered by the news about Northerner leaving and in order to stop her young lover's departure, she cast a spell of wondering blizzards over her kingdom turning it in to the giant labyrinth of ice corridors.

Northerner after wondering with his crew in to the raging snow storm, he realized that queen was not going to let them leave. Enraged he has sworn the vengeance for the suffering of his friends. Northerner led his man back to the Crystal Palace and for time being he reconcile with queen.

Few weeks later with the help of the young sorceress Amanda; Northerner and his crew made back to Kraal-tha-Gaat shores. Regardless to the promise he made to light spirit Northerner had no intention whatsoever to enter the solitary life of the light warrior. For next two years Northerner has spent with his brothers and friends at home, enjoying hunts, wine and a company of pretty girls. It all changed on the faithful starless night when a dark cloaked stranger has shown at his father doors...

General Kain
General Kain

Kain is a true legend of the underworld. He serves the first Scepter of Souls, and he commands thousands of legions. Before his death, Kain was already renowned as a warrior. His bravery and skill on the battlefield impressed even gods. When Kain died and refused to enter the white plains of paradise, the necromancer god took pity on the wandering soul of the fallen hero and brought him back to life.

As the first Bies ever created, Kain's rebirth was commemorated by the assembly of all the dark gods. There he was given the divine mark, which was placed over his forehead to symbolize the eternal bond between the Bies kind and the darkness. Each of the twelve gods then gave Kain a trade, one they believed would be most suitable for the perfect soldier. Against the will of the other gods, Morthem the god of war, returned secretly to the assembly chambers after the close of the ceremony and presented Kain with magic powers. He made him a skilled warlock, able to wield the dark magic. After many more of the Bies were reborn, Kain was appointed by the assembly to be the leader in-command of the underworld army.

The army of darkness had not always ruled the land; however, long before Kain's arrival to Krydor there were many tales of a dark general who had never lost a battle. Amoung those tales, one that evoked the darkest fears in common folk, was the tale of Kain, the undead general who forced his own creator into submission. Indeed the tale was true-kain's destiny was to defeat and enslave the necromancer god in service to the Bies army and the god of war. The fateful battle for supremacy over the underworld lasted for days, finally ending with Kain's victory. Ashamed, the necromancer god succumbed to Kain's rule and would remain his slave until the end of time, imprisoned somwhere in the depth of Krydor keep's dungeons. Though years have passed since the unfolding of this event, the story has been passed from generation to generation as a reminder to never challenge or question Kain's power.

Kain's leadership skill and the attributes of the human general he once was complemented the dark Bies general he became. To his soldiers, Kain is just and caring; much like a father, but to others he is a cruel and bloodthirsty despot. He is a tough lawgiver who executes that law mercilessly. A nightmare to civilians, Kain remains a hero to his soldiers. It is a custom for young Bies warriors to wear a tattoo on their forehead resembling Kain's birthmark. They wear it with pride, a symbol of being reborn to the world under the command of the ultimate warrior of darkness.

Kain enjoyed being a part of the Duma clan. When Vladimir Duma managed to steal the first Scepter of Souls, Kain welcomed the idea of moving his army to the surface. Life in the underworld was much too quiet for the general, and union with the Duma family guaranteed a new exciting opportunity, the opportunity to take his reign of terror from the stagnant underworld of gods and spirits to the human world full of vibrant life.

Needless to say, the joining of rebellion forces with Kain's army saved the dark uprising. It took Kain only a few hours to subjugate and gain control over the Krydor and Sarathkon regions and restore Vladimir to the father's throne.

Vladimir Duma
Vladimir Duma

Prince Vladimir, the scion of Kosma the Great, came to Sarathkon's throne after the mysterious disappearance of his brother's only son, Radu. The years of his rule were characterized by cruelty. Vladimir had no interest in overseeing his land. He spent most of his time behind the walls of Krydor Keep where his behaviour grew increasingly disruptive. Soon no one but those closest to him was allowed to enter the Keep. Others, after being summoned before Vladimir, were never seen again. It was said that Vladimir was involved in dark sciences and magic. Despite the thick veil of silence and secrecy surrounding walls of the Keep, some fishermen swore that they heard strange, haunting sounds coming from the fortress. It was commonly believed that torture and orgies took place there and that the master of the castle was practising dark arts. On several occasions, swarms of dark-cloaked horse riders emerged from the castle at night, abducting and slaughtering villagers who stood in their way. It was rumoured that Vladimir himself led these assaults.

Dano
Dano

Dano was born into a life of war and privilege - the youngest son of a Carpathian warlord. Ever since he was a young boy he dreamed of being, and prepared to be a warrior - so that he may someday ride into battle at his father's side. The apple of his mother's eye, Dano grew up handsome and strong. At the age of seventeen, Dano obtained the rite of passage and, like many other young boys of his tribe, he was initiated into warrior status through the sacred ceremony of his people. After the ceremony, his father gave Dano his two most prized possessions - the family sword and a pure-bred obsidian horse - which Dano swore to him that he would never let out of his sight.

It was not long after that day when Dano's much anticipated first battle had come. It began in the morning, and lasted throughout the day. By evening it was clear that the army of the enemy was decimated and its remaining survivors were fleeing the field in panic. It was then when something unexpected occurred: Out of nowhere, an old cloaked man appeared before the warlord. He invoked an ancient treaty and begged for the slaughter of the fleeing soldiers to be stopped; however the cloaked man was soon to realize that his desperate plea held no meaning for the general. In reply the warlord ridiculed and laugh at the old man, and then struck him down to the ground. Dying, the old man called out to the skies in an unknown tongue and his old, shrivelled body burst into black flames. Even the bravest of Dano's clan were terrified at the sight. Whispers carried the name Elligor amongst the men. The Warlord called his army to retreat. But it was already too late…

The skies became dark and a hail of stones, poisoned darts, and arrows rained down upon the retreating army. Dano remembers the chaos, the screams all around him. The boy tried to stop his horse from falling but the animal collapsed under the heavy rain of arrows, throwing of Dano to the ground. He remembers the darkness and a strange sound beneath the battlefield, like the murmur of a slowly flowing river; the river of death... Dano tried to stand up but he couldn't… All he could do was open his eyes for the last time to catch the final memory of his mortal life - the memory of the gentle warmth of the setting sun on his face and the whisper of his dying brother: “Look, the sun is falling”…

Then there was darkness… and voices, whispers and cries. Dano could swear he recognized his mother's voice. Someone tried to take his father's sword from him but he wouldn’t let go. A man offered him a cup of brew and he took it. The next thing Dano remembers was awakening in the compound amongst his Bies brothers… and he loved it!

Raven is an unlikely match for Dano. He did not meet her until mere days before the dark prophecy was revealed. She is beautiful with her deep, dark eyes and black hair. Aside from her beauty, Dano found himself more than intrigued by Raven's somewhat cold personality. At first he noticed that there was something sad about her, and her sadness instantly attracted him to her. At times she reminded him of a fragile bird caught and kept in a gilded cage. Raven's vulnerability in some twisted way evokes desire in Dano- to own her, just for himself. Needless to say that Raven's recent engagement to Vladimir has driven Dano insane with jealousy. He knows that there is no easy way to snatch Raven from Vladimir's grip and to stop the prophesied wedding from happening. To achieve this goal, Dano is prepared to do “whatever it takes” - to conspire with Asha or to go against his Bies brotherhood if need be.

The relationship between Raven and Dano is far from being perfect, on the contrary it is rather turbulent. Dano is not a sentimental or romantic type of man. Being a Bies: half man –half beast, he has many dangerous dualities. It is in his nature to swing uncontrollably, from being benevolently tender to cruelly vicious in the blink of an eye. He is unstable and controlling, and these particular traits in Dano's personality Raven finds hard to deal with. As a result of the duality of Dano's behaviour the two have quarrelled several times, the fights ending in violence on occasions. The uncertainty of Dano's intentions is the reason for Raven rejecting and accepting him back over and over again.
